A guided canyoning descent on Vancouver's doorstep. Cypress sits in the Coast Mountains twenty-five minutes from downtown, and yet stepping into the canyon feels like stepping into a different world— moss, old-growth shade, glacier-fed pools, and the steady sound of moving water shaping granite. This trip is built for people who want a real backcountry experience without committing to a full day of highway driving.
Most people on this trip have never put on a wetsuit or held a rope. That's who it's built for. Every skill you'll use in the canyon, you learn on dry ground first — with time to ask questions and try it twice. You don't need to be a strong swimmer. If you're comfortable in water, you can do this.
It's also the trip for people who want to make the most of a day on the North Shore. You're off the canyon by early afternoon — plenty of time to grab lunch in Ambleside, walk the Capilano Suspension Bridge, or drink a beer on a patio with wet hair and a story you didn't have that morning.
Check-in at Cypress Pop-Up Village: Coffee, washroom, parking on site. You'll meet your guide team and the rest of your group, confirm your booking, and finish the waiver process. Your lead guide runs through the day — the safety briefing, the plan, the logistics, and what to expect from the canyon. Plan to arrive a few minutes early. The trip starts the moment everyone's there.
Gear up: wetsuit, helmet, harness, canyoning shoes. We take our time here. Gear that fits properly is the difference between a comfortable day and a cold one. Your guide checks every piece on every guest before anyone takes a step toward the canyon.
Drive to the canyon: Short drive from the village to the trailhead, then a fifteen-minute approach hike through coastal rainforest to the creek. Once we're at the water, we run the on-site skills session — how to rappel, how to communicate in the canyon and how to move through moving water. You practise each skill before we go any further. Nothing happens downstream that you haven't already done up here.
Descent begins: Scrambles and short drops to warm the group up and get everyone moving together. Then the canyon opens up.
The first waterfall is a narrow notch where the creek funnels down and drops into a perfect caldera-shaped pool. From there, more walking, the first slides, the first optional jumps, until you reach Dippers Falls. Then the canyon tightens — a narrow corridor of granite and moss that finally opens onto White Shaman Falls. Look closely at the rock beside the water: most people see the face of an old man carved into the cliff. Some don't see it at all. That's part of the fun.
Past White Shaman, the canyon eases — more scrambles, slides, and jumps for anyone who wants them, until the hike out to the rim and back to the vehicle.
Hot drink in the canyon: Halfway through, we stop. Hot drink, snack if you brought one, a few minutes to take the place in. Most groups don't say much here. The canyon does the talking.
Exit and debrief: Hike out to the rim, short drive back to Cypress Pop-Up Village. Peeling off the wetsuit into dry clothes. Quick debrief — what you loved, what surprised you, what you want to do next.
The trip runs about five hours from check-in to exit. Times move with the group. We don't rush you. We don't drag.
No pick-up service. Self-drive or rideshare to the Cypress Pop-Up Village meeting point. Detailed directions and parking info are sent in your booking confirmation.
